One-of-a-Kind Copper Coasters: A Symphony of Traditional Japanese Colors

A Single Coaster, a Unique World Admire the breathtaking hues and captivating mottled patterns. Each piece is a work of art, crafted from copper using age-old techniques that bring out a distinct, individual "personality" in the metal.
The Heritage of Takaoka Copperware
The art of copper coloring has flourished for centuries in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture—a city world-renowned for its metalwork. Momentum Factory Orii is a prestigious workshop rooted in this tradition, home to Certified Traditional Artisans who have mastered the delicate soul of metal.
Alchemy of Tradition: The Coloring Process
The methods used are as diverse as they are fascinating. Through a series of steps involving boiling, firing, and scrubbing, the artisans interact with the metal. They use a unique blend of chemicals alongside natural materials like rice bran and ohaguro (iron gall ink).
Because the result depends on the precise combination of chemicals and techniques, the possible variations are infinite. From this endless spectrum, we have carefully selected five exquisite colors specifically for these coasters:
・Red / Peacock Patina (Hanmon-Kujaku): A vibrant shade featured on the grand arches of the Takaoka Station gates.

・Blue / Gas Bronze Patina (Hanmon-Gasu-Seido): A striking blue often chosen for gallery signs and premium nameplates.

・Silver / Pure Silver Patina (Hanmon-Jungin): A color of serene dignity, used in the sacred architecture of Takaoka's shrines.

・Black / Darkened Patina (Hanmon-Kuro-Zome): A deep, shadowy hue with immense depth, utilized for the walls of prestigious art museums.

・Pink / Textured Pink Patina (Hanmon-Arashi): A delicate yet textured finish that captures a unique warmth.

Unrepeatable Beauty
While a master’s skill and experience can reproduce the same base color, the patterns can never be replicated. Every single coaster has a different "expression."
Even for a seasoned Traditional Artisan, the final pattern remains somewhat unpredictable until the moment of completion. This mystery is the true depth and allure of copper coloring.
"The Only One in the World" Each coaster is handcrafted one by one by the artisans of Momentum Factory Orii. Bring a touch of world-class Japanese craftsmanship and a unique splash of color to your table.
