A small tin vase that helps flowers last

About Nousaku
Nousaku (能作) is a foundry founded in 1916 in Takaoka, Toyama, a city whose metal-casting tradition goes back some 400 years. It began by making Buddhist altar fittings and now uses the same casting skills to create tableware and interior pieces in brass and pure tin. Every design starts from the material itself, and each piece is finished by hand by Nousaku's craftspeople.
1. Tin and flowers
Tin has natural antibacterial properties. In a tin vase the water stays clean longer and stems get less slimy than in an ordinary vase, so flowers last longer. Suzuhana, "tin and flowers," was designed around that quality.

2. Display it two ways
Hang it on the wall by the ring at the rim, or pair it with Nousaku's "8" chopstick rest to stand it on a table or shelf.
3. Three surface textures
Hiware (crackled ice), Line, and Nunome (fabric weave).

Care
- Tin is a soft metal. Avoid repeatedly applying force to the same spot.
- Tin has a low melting point: do not use over a direct flame, in the microwave, dishwasher or dryer.
- Do not put it in the freezer. Extreme cold can cause "tin pest" (discoloration and deformation).
- Wash with a soft sponge and mild dish soap. Do not scrub with abrasive pads or cleanser.
- If the shine dulls, polish it with metal polish, toothpaste or baking soda.

The maker behind this piece
Nousaku
Takaoka, Toyama
Founded in 1916 in Takaoka, a town with 400 years of metal casting history, Nousaku began by making Buddhist altar fittings. Today it casts tin and brass into tableware, wind chimes and interior pieces, guided by one simple aim: to make better castings, and to make them well.
