NAGARE is a furoshiki brand created by Asakura Senpu, a dyeing company in Kiryu, Gunma Prefecture, a city long known for its textiles. They have reborn the traditional Japanese wrapping cloth, the furoshiki, with modern technology and design, aiming for a new and beautiful way of living.

How Will You Use It?

This furoshiki repels water so strongly that it can even hold it. Use it as an everyday multi-purpose bag, carry water like a bucket when you are outdoors, or put pressure on water inside it to make a simple shower.

Carrying water in the NAGARE furoshiki

Because it can carry water and repels it so well, it also makes a great emergency-preparedness item. Keep one in your bag and it becomes a waterproof cover that protects your belongings from sudden rain. It is also an eco bag that can carry wet items in place of plastic bags. With a little imagination, the possibilities are endless.

Water Repellency That Lasts After 100 Washes

For everyday use, you want to be able to wash it. NAGARE keeps its water repellency even after 100 washes thanks to a special finishing process. It also repels dirt, so it stays clean longer. (Please do not use bleach or fabric softener.)

A Wide Range of Designs

Furoshiki may sound old-fashioned, but NAGARE comes in stylish designs, from simple everyday patterns to colorful ones that brighten your day, and it is loved by people of all generations. As a furoshiki bag, you can change it to match the season or your mood.

Care Instructions

  • Machine washable with ordinary detergent. Detergent temporarily stops the water repellency, but it returns once the detergent is rinsed off with water or warm water.
  • Do not use bleach (it degrades the water repellency) or fabric softener (it can block the water-repellent effect).
  • If fabric softener was used by mistake: rinse in water or lukewarm water for about 10 minutes, then spin-dry, dry (sun or tumble), and iron at medium temperature (about 160°C) to restore the repellency.

FAQ

Can I machine-wash it?
Yes. Use regular detergent; the water repellency returns once the detergent is rinsed out. Avoid bleach and fabric softener.

Is it waterproof?
It is super water-repellent, not a plastic coating, so it stays breathable. Water under strong pressure (such as when squeezed) can pass through.

How do I tie it into a bag?
Tie two neighbouring corners together, then the other two, leaving one end of each knot long. Tie those two long ends together and you have a shoulder bag. See our step-by-step guide: How to Wrap a Furoshiki.

Is it a good gift?
Yes. It is lightweight, folds compactly, and comes in 19 designs.

Colors may look slightly different from the actual product depending on your screen.
