A bowl you will want to leave out on the table

TEORI NUTS bamboo bowls in five colours

NUTS is carved from a solid block of laminated bamboo, so the inside of every bowl shows the natural mosaic of countless bamboo strips joined together, framed by a coloured outer finish. Surprisingly few bowls are beautiful enough to leave out on the table; NUTS is one of them. Use it for fruit, snacks or keys by the front door, or simply as an object to look at. It also makes a versatile gift.

NUTS has received a Good Design Award and has been sold at the museum shop of MoMA, The Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Why laminated bamboo?

Bamboo is remarkably strong. It resists bending and compression, hardly warps after it is worked, and is naturally antibacterial and deodorising, which is why it is used for things like library shelving. On its own, though, a bamboo cane can only be made into a limited range of things. TEORI takes the time to turn bamboo into laminated bamboo: strips are planed, dried and glued into solid blocks that can be shaped into almost anything. The end grain of many strips joined together creates a natural pattern that is a design in itself. Bamboo also grows back without replanting and is ready to use in three to five years, making it a truly sustainable material.
