A soft Boston frame for everyday wear

tesio YAMA sunglasses in black

YAMA (“mountain”) is a rounded Boston frame with a soft, relaxed look that suits casual outfits and outdoor days alike. Handmade from acetate in Sabae and fitted with Japanese glass lenses and titanium nose pads, it is made to be worn and cared for over many years.

Sunglasses designed for East Asian faces

Most well-known sunglasses brands come from Europe and America, and their frames are built around Western facial proportions. tesio comes from Taniguchi Megane, an eyewear maker in Sabae that specialises in frames for Asian faces. Every frame is designed around features such as nose height, eye depth, cheekbones and head shape, so it sits comfortably where many imported frames do not.

The weight is carefully balanced too: rather than simply making the frame lighter, the centre of gravity sits towards the back, so the frame is less likely to slide down and stays comfortable for hours. The original nose pads follow the shape of the nose naturally. Some people cannot help saying “oh!” the first time they put a pair on.

Glass lenses and titanium nose pads, made to last

  • Glass lenses: far clearer than ordinary plastic lenses for a sharper, more comfortable view. They are also hard-wearing and practically immune to fading from UV light. The Japanese-made glass is the same kind used for car windscreens and SLR camera lenses.
  • Titanium nose pads: titanium does not rust from sweat or skin oils, so a quick wipe after wearing is all the care they need. It is also widely used in medicine as a material that rarely causes metal allergies.

Colours

  • Black: visible light transmission 18%, UV protection 99% or more
  • Brown Havana: VLT 38%, UV protection 98.5%
  • Olive: VLT 59%, UV protection 99% or more
  • Light Brown: VLT 13%, UV protection 99% or more

How to choose your tesio

  • Shape: the Wellington styles (MACHI, KAEDE) give a calm, slightly formal look; the Boston styles (YAMA, HARE, MINAMO) a softer, more casual one. Choose by the impression you want to create.
  • Materials and price: MACHI, YAMA, MINAMO and KAEDE use premium glass lenses and titanium pads that barely age; HARE uses high-quality plastic lenses and acetate pads at a lower price.
