A knife block that looks like split bamboo

TEORI SPLIT bamboo knife stand in a kitchen

Few people know that bamboo is naturally antibacterial, germ-resistant and deodorising. SPLIT makes the most of these qualities. Designed to look like a block of laminated bamboo splitting apart, it is handsome enough for the dining table as well as the kitchen. Knives can go in lengthways or crossways, and the outer frame is joined all round so no blade is ever exposed. Practical, easy to keep clean and beautiful to look at.

TEORI SPLIT knife stands, straight and angled

Choose the upright Straight type or the Angled type. Both hold knives with blades up to 21 cm (8.3 in).

Why laminated bamboo?

Bamboo is remarkably strong. It resists bending and compression, hardly warps after it is worked, and is naturally antibacterial and deodorising, which is why it is used for things like library shelving. On its own, though, a bamboo cane can only be made into a limited range of things. TEORI takes the time to turn bamboo into laminated bamboo: strips are planed, dried and glued into solid blocks that can be shaped into almost anything. The end grain of many strips joined together creates a natural pattern that is a design in itself. Bamboo also grows back without replanting and is ready to use in three to five years, making it a truly sustainable material.

SPLIT is made in limited numbers, so delivery may take a little longer.
