About Nousaku

Nousaku (能作) is a foundry founded in 1916 in Takaoka, Toyama, a city whose metal-casting tradition goes back some 400 years. It began by making Buddhist altar fittings and now uses the same casting skills to create tableware and interior pieces in brass and pure tin. Every design starts from the material itself, and each piece is finished by hand by Nousaku's craftspeople.

1. Cast in Takaoka, finished by hand

The Slim chime is made with the casting and metalworking techniques of Takaoka, in a simple teardrop form that suits today's homes. To bring out the beauty of the metal, each one is turned and finished by hand on a lathe.

2. The clear tone of brass

A Japanese wind chime, or furin, is hung by an open window so the breeze can ring it. Nousaku stripped away everything unnecessary so that nothing gets in the way of the clear, lingering tone of brass: a chime to enjoy with both eyes and ears.

3. Three finishes

Choose gold (clear-coated brass), silver (silver-plated) or pink gold (copper-plated). Each chime arrives in a Nousaku gift box.
