Machine-washable canvas babouches — wear them as slippers or as room shoes

Canvas babouches in nine colors lined up

These colorful babouches are made by ABE HOME SHOES, the home-shoe brand of Abe Sangyo — a slipper maker that has been in business since 1919. They catch your eye with their look, but every detail reflects a century of know-how in making comfortable footwear for the home.

Why you'll love them

  • Two ways to wear — fold the heel down to slip them on like slippers, or stand it up for room shoes that stay on as you move around.
  • Machine washable — the cotton canvas can go straight into the washing machine and gets softer with every wash.
  • Comfortable and quiet — a cushioned EVA and urethane insole, and a design that keeps footsteps quiet.
  • Last longer — the left and right shoes are the same shape, so you can swap them now and then for even wear.
  • Nine colors, five sizes — from kids to XL, easy to match for the whole family and your guests.

Canvas — an excellent material

Soft canvas upper of the babouche

The upper is made of canvas, a strong cotton fabric, so you can simply put the babouches in the washing machine. The charm of canvas is the way it softens as you wash and wear it. It is durable, and comes in a wide range of colors to enjoy.

Made by a slipper maker since 1919

Craftsman sewing a babouche at Abe Sangyo

Abe Sangyo has made footwear since its founding over a hundred years ago. The comfort, quality and sewing skill that come from that history are second to none.

Designed around the wearer

Babouche worn with the heel up or folded down

Babouches are known for their heel, and these can be worn two ways. When you are taking them on and off often, fold the heel down and wear them as slippers. When you are moving around the house, stand the heel up and wear them as room shoes.

By pursuing comfort with a long-established maker's know-how, the babouches also turned out to be quiet underfoot. And because the left and right are made in the same shape, you can switch them from time to time to make them last longer.

Slippers you'll want to match

Babouches lined up for the whole family and guests

It's nice to have matching slippers at home, but good-quality ones that are easy to collect are hard to find. These canvas babouches are high quality yet reasonably priced. A row of bright colors makes your entryway cheerful — we recommend a pair for each family member and some for guests. Since they are washable canvas, they can be used in any season. They also make a lovely gift for a housewarming, Mother's Day and many other occasions.
