We deliberately use unplated brass parts for hardware. Using brass components in their raw state makes them highly resistant to corrosion and ensures long-lasting use. Furthermore, like leather, they develop a beautiful patina over time that you can enjoy.

＊Leather: Pit Tanning Method

Pit tanning is a leather production method that uses plant-based tannins, allowing the leather to be tanned slowly over an extended period.
Leather produced this way requires specific facilities (location), significant labor and time (people, cost), and an extremely long process. This makes increasing production difficult, resulting in high rarity and cost. Nevertheless, it is cherished worldwide.
Pit-tanned leather does not break down the fibers. Instead, the raw hides are minimally moved while tannins are slowly and thoroughly absorbed over time. This process results in leather that is robust and resistant to losing its shape.
Therefore, products made from this leather develop a unique character over time as they are used and cherished by their owner, increasing their appeal. Through aging, they become something truly special and personal to you.

【About Brass】
We use unplated brass components for metal parts in our products whenever possible.
Brass naturally tarnishes over time. Hand contact with moisture or oils accelerates this change.
While we'd prefer to deliver brass in its natural state to showcase its charm, we apply a protective coating to prevent tarnishing during post-production distribution and in-store handling.
Brass hardware left unused for extended periods will darken significantly. However, friction from use or gently wiping with a cloth will gradually transform it into the characteristic antique, warm, deep, and soft luster unique to brass.

【About Leather】
The leather used in clife products is made using the pit tanning method.
This traditional method, dating back to ancient Roman times, produces leather that is robust and resistant to deformation. Furthermore, it deepens in color and develops a richer luster with use.
The leather is dyed with pigments to achieve a natural texture and sheen, without covering the surface with paint or applying lacquer for gloss.
This finish highlights the inherent beauty of the leather and may include characteristic wrinkles. Please understand that individual variations exist.
