Eco-Friendly Paulownia Wood Rice Bin with Magnetic Measuring Cup
Elevate your kitchen with sustainable Japanese craftsmanship. Keep your rice fresh, naturally.

Eco-Friendly Rice Storage
Crafted by Masuda Kiribako, a historic workshop founded in 1929 in Fukuoka, Japan, this Paulownia wood rice bin (Komebitsu) combines traditional Japanese preservation wisdom with modern minimalist design.

Why Paulownia is the Future of Sustainable Kitchenware
Paulownia (Kiri) is celebrated not only for its incredible functionality but also as an exceptionally eco-friendly material. Unlike slow-growing hardwoods, Paulownia trees grow remarkably fast, reaching maturity in just 15 to 20 years. This rapid growth cycle allows for highly sustainable, renewable harvesting without depleting natural forests. Furthermore, its fast growth means it absorbs and traps carbon dioxide at a high rate, making it a wonderful low-carbon footprint choice for environmentally conscious homes.

Natural Protection, Advanced Freshness
For centuries, Japanese artisans have trusted Paulownia to protect precious items. It naturally possesses insect-repelling and antibacterial properties, acting as an organic shield for your grains. Thanks to its superior moisture-regulating abilities, it keeps internal humidity perfectly balanced—preventing mold during damp seasons and drying out during dry spells, keeping your rice at its peak flavor.
Ninety Years of Japanese Craftsmanship: The Masuda Kiribako Legacy

The Mastery of Masuda Kiribako: Perfecting Craftsmanship Since 1929 Founded in 1929 in Fukuoka, Japan, Masuda Kiribako has spent nearly a century mastering the art of traditional wooden box-making. For decades, their exceptional craftsmanship has been trusted to create protective storage for Japan's Living National Treasures (人間国宝)—safeguarding priceless museum-grade ceramics and cultural artifacts.

Artisanal Expertise Meets Modern Utility Today, Masuda Kiribako reimagines this time-honored preservation expertise for the modern kitchen. Using their signature "Shihozashi" traditional interlocking lid technique, each rice bin is engineered with tight-fitting precision that maximizes the wood's natural humidity control and pest-repellent properties. By blending centuries-old artisanal know-how with clever modern design, they ensure your everyday staples are guarded with the exact same reverence as Japan's finest masterpieces.

Thoughtful, Modern Functionality
-
See-Through Acrylic Lid: Features a unique "Shihozashi" lid—a traditional box-making technique that ensures an airtight seal. The transparent top lets you check the remaining amount at a glance.

-
Smart Hanging Feature: Designed with clever grooves underneath, the lid can be conveniently hooked onto the rim of the box while you refill.

-
Magnetic Measuring Cup (Masu): A traditional 1-合 (Ichigo / approx. 180ml) wooden measuring cup is included. It magnetically attaches to the underside of the lid, preventing it from ever getting buried under the rice.

How to Clean & Maintain
-
Daily Cleaning: Simply wipe the inside and outside with a clean, dry, soft cloth to remove any remaining starch or grain dust.
-
For Stubborn Spots: If it gets soiled, wipe gently with a tightly wrung-out damp cloth, and then immediately wipe it dry with another cloth.
-
Important Note: Never wash with water, submerge in water, or put it in a dishwasher. Exposure to excessive water will cause the natural wood to warp, crack, or develop mold.
-
Drying: If you use a damp cloth, always let the box air-dry completely in a well-ventilated, shaded area before refilling it with rice. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can cause the wood to bend.
