A Lunch Box for Delicious Meals

Wajima Kirimoto's "Asunaro Lunch Box"

 - simple and beautiful. In a word, "You can enjoy your lunch more deliciously."

You might wonder, "What difference does a lunch box make?" While I'd like to say, "You'll understand once you use it," I'll introduce a few reasons here.

Beautiful and Refined Design

Wajima Kirimoto's lunch boxes are simply beautiful. They use natural wood from hinoki asunaro (Japanese thuja) that has been seasoned for over 10 years, and only the parts with particularly beautiful grain are selected. The wood grain that runs smoothly across, the exquisite texture that cannot be artificially created.

All corners are finished with a plane, and magnolia wood is used at the joints as an accent. Thanks to the craftsmen's high skill, it's assembled without gaps, so liquids don't normally leak. The refined design makes not only Japanese food but also Western food look delicious.

Hinoki Asunaro with Glass Coating Finish

The natural wood used for the lunch box is hinoki asunaro, which has particularly high antibacterial effects and water resistance. To take advantage of these characteristics, instead of using conventional urethane coating, the surface is finished with glass coating that utilizes the water resistance of hinoki asunaro. Glass coating is a penetrating coating that doesn't seal the surface and doesn't inhibit the wood's breathing. It prevents dirt and scratches from sticking to the wood, prevents deterioration, and allows for long-term use. A lunch box that retains the texture of solid wood, with antibacterial effects and the enjoyment of wood aroma.

When eating your lunch, there's a subtle fragrance of hinoki asunaro, making you feel as if you're having lunch in nature even when eating indoors.

Lunch Box Concerns

When carrying lunch at room temperature until noon, it can deteriorate and lose some flavor. Rice can sometimes become sticky with moisture. These are concerns that simply cannot be resolved with plastic lunch boxes. However, a natural wood lunch box regulates moisture appropriately, so your lunch is less likely to spoil, and rice stickiness is reduced. Additionally, hinoki asunaro has antibacterial effects, so food is less likely to spoil and lose flavor. That's why you can enjoy a delicious lunch even after waiting until noon. It's the same reason why bentwood lunch boxes (magewappa) allow you to enjoy delicious rice.

A lunch box that satisfies not just your hunger but also your spirit - the commitment to materials, beautiful design, pleasant touch, craftsmen's careful work, the antibacterial effect and moisture regulation of asunaro - all these elements combine to allow you to "enjoy your lunch more deliciously."

■ Store Manager's Comments

The taste of the lunch is different. It feels decisively more delicious for some reason. It might be due to the antibacterial and moisture-regulating effects of hinoki asunaro, but this bento box provides satisfaction beyond just that. The feel of hinoki asunaro to the touch, its fragrance, the beauty of the bento box - they say food is enjoyed with all five senses, and I truly feel that. It's also pleasant that rice doesn't stick to the bento box, and the carefulness of the craftsman's work in every detail contains a wonderfulness that can't be fully expressed in words.
