"Tenugui Art for Every Season and Occasion"

Tenugui is a traditional Japanese cotton cloth used as a towel, a gift wrap, or even as decoration.

What sets kenema apart is its unique, captivating design that naturally makes you want to put it on display.

While they are perfectly functional as handkerchiefs or towels, their beauty is something we hope you first enjoy as a piece of art. By coordinating them with the changing seasons and special events, you can bring a touch of elegance and festive joy to your daily life.

"Displaying with Frames and Tapestries"

For an easy setup, we recommend our magnetic tapestry rods. If you prefer a more formal interior look, a dedicated Tenugui frame is an excellent choice.

While redecorating a whole room for every season can be a challenge, Tenugui offers a simple, space-saving way to refresh your home’s atmosphere at your own pace.

Here are the tools for decorating

"The Gentle Texture of Chusen Dyeing"

Another hallmark of kenema is its soft, gentle texture.

We use a traditional technique called Chusen, which creates beautiful blurs, delicate patterns, and natural gradients that only this artisanal method can achieve.

Since the dye permeates the fabric entirely, there is no "front" or "back"—the design looks vibrant and consistent from either side. Beyond the visual beauty, we hope you appreciate the unique character and warmth that only authentic Chusen dyeing can provide.

■ Care and Precautions for Hand-Dyed Tenugui

Some color bleeding may occur initially, so please hand wash separately in lukewarm water for the first 2-3 washes.
After washing, gently squeeze out excess water, smooth out wrinkles, and air dry in the shade.
Chusen-dyed tenugui are characterized by their fading, texture, and softness that develop with use.
The edges of the tenugui are left raw. This also has the advantage of quick drying and being less prone to bacterial buildup. While they will gradually fray with use, there's no need to sew them. As you trim the excess threads, the fraying will stop and form a natural fringe.
